Your beautiful photographs and stories gave me new insight about a part of the world, I only assumed I knew. Reading about your relationships and experiences made me see the people as real people. I want to meet them myself. As I read, I also acknowledge that you gave yourself an opportunity to know yourself. Wouldn’t it be amazing if each of us made a journey like this one? It wouldn’t have to be as intense as this. It could be to spend time on a reservation, an inner city community, or a rural community, with the genuine intention of learning and understanding. If others could see the world through your courage and compassion think of the kind of place this could be. It is not likely that I will take the kind of trip you did. Thank you for taking me along with you on yours.

This book provides stunning photographs and 1000-word essays of a 25,000-mile trip across the Americas. The author also offers provocative insights and reflections into his life which is full of mountain top experiences and time spent in the valley of despair.
It is an evocative book that made me think if I were to put together a similar book about my life, what pictures and words would I use. I recommend this highly.

What is possible is owning and giving this book of exciting, economic & poignant prose and pics David Overturf's, Road Trip.
Literally making this journey in 2023 from North America to South America could have an outcome far less successful.
Dave drives you and pays for your gas all the way to Argentina from Montana, U.S.A in 2016.
Dave will introduce you to people you want to share a meal with, people you want to witness and then feel relief when you can turn the page and move on. You will travel rough roads only donkey's travel and Dave will provide you safe passage.
You will be seduced by landscapes and as a passenger arrive in a spell of timeless expansion.

Vulnerable! Relatable! Compelling!
I couldn’t wait to read the next story and the next story and the next story; I felt I was along on the road trip with David sharing all the emotions. A thousand words brought together one picture at a time beautifully!

Do yourself a favor and buy this amazing book, filled with Once in a Lifetime photographs of beauty and humanity. Dave has the unique ability to capture people and places as they truly are. Through his photography, I joined in his incredible journey to one of our planet’s most spectacular places, South America. His photos capture the soul and beauty of our brothers and sisters, our world, in a really special place. Enjoy!

This is a refreshingly different book, both more and less than what it seems at first. Yes, it's travel writing. But also it is philosophy and psychology. And no, it doesn't answer every question about what the trip was like - perhaps to stimulate our own imagination?

What an interesting adventure David Overturf had on his journey to the tip of South America! I enjoyed his reflections about the people he met, the terrain he traveled through, and even camping out in his van. Looking forward to hearing about his next adventure!

At the time David Overturf made this astounding journey, I eagerly followed him on line. It is very satisfying to revisit his remarkable undertaking with this unique book which is sensitively illustrated with professional quality photos and well curated prose. My own love of travel leads me to be impressed with his ability to edit and share the essence of each experience along the way without belaboring his personal viewpoint. To view South America through David's lens is indeed a unique and treasured experience.

Being of an advanced age and no longer travelling and having my own adventures it was wonderful to share David Overturf's 1,000 words each evening. (That is, until the tour ended!) This ambitious tour of Mexico and South America reinforces the belief that we, as travelers, will not appreciate a destination until we make an effort to meet the people. The author had the advantage of lingual ability which most of us do not have. However his adventure points out to travelers that adventure consists of more than looking at scenery but rather learning the heart of the nation via interaction with its citizens.

We all have a chance to leave our mark on this world. Mr. Overturf has put together words and images that leave an indelible impression. Unapologetic honesty take the reader on an epic journey to the tip of South America. He lets us ride shotgun in La Bestia, his trusty minivan, through barren deserts and impossible mountains. Unlike most travel books, the people tell the story in “road trip”. The canvas is filled with characters great and small. The journey takes the reader on a tour of humanity that leaves a taste for each region. A master of his craft behind a lens, he equals his artistry with his words. A must read for those with a pulse.

David Overturf’s book is a hidden gem that should be in everyone’s collection. At a time in history when we are all struggling with our own inner demons, searching for something beyond the status quo, outside the box, and that serves our true self, this book represents one man’s journey and exploration of this planet in a way that is bold, brave, tender and honest. The photos are beautiful, simple, and profound, but the words are what struck me the most. So much is written in memoir style, about David’s personal journey, but ultimately this journey is something that each of us longs for and for some of us, reading this book may spark a sense of bravery that sends us out into the world to embark on our own adventures and for others, we may live vicariously through David’s epic road trip. Both experiences are profound and life-changing. I’m so grateful that I found this beautiful book. Any time I am feeling stuck or bogged down by the inertia of every day life, I will pull it out and remind myself that anything is possible.
